I did dance!

Today is PINK SATURDAY and I will be sharing some memories from my childhood.

As far as childhood memories go, mine are wrapped around ballet.  As far as I can remember, I danced. My childhood was about going to ballet classes or getting ready to go for a class.  I loved it!  If my mother would have let me, I would have gone every day, all day.  That's how much I loved dancing.   I loved the smell of the studio, the pianist playing all the beautiful classical music, the pink shoes, the pink tights, my black leotard, my neat hair bun and all of my patient beautiful ballet teachers.  I lived for dancing.  I had a really happy childhood thanks to dancing.
Eventually, I became a ballet teacher.  I had my own school and enjoyed teaching all the young want-to-be ballerinas. While teaching,  I was also able to join a ballet company:  Les Ballets Métropolitains du Canada.  It was the best time of my life.  It was fun traveling and putting on "Les spectacles de ballet".  It was "a dream come true".

Finally, a career in dance does not last very long.  As a teacher I was part of the prestigious Académie des Grands Ballets Canadiens.  I finally stopped teaching when my husband, because of his work commitments,  was being constantly transferred  in different cities across Canada and then overseas.  I recently came across this beautiful painting by Scott Mattlin. It conjures so many beautiful memories.  I'm mesmerized by this painter's talent especially the tutu.   Its very luminous with a touch of pink!

It just reminds me of the many times I crossed the pink ribbons over my ankles always making sure that the ribbons were not too tight nor to loose. I still love pink tutus, pink tights, pink leotards, pink satin pointe shoes...
Here is a song that reminds me of how important "dancing" can be in one's life.  At times, dancing literally gave me wings to fly over the peaks and valleys of my life.  Weekend blessings to all!

Here is one of my favorite songs by Lee Ann Womack!  Enjoy!

  3. I "danced" on ice--figure skating. My sister got to do ballet and I always envied those pink point slippers (but not her blood crusted toes). This was a beautiful, wistful way to begin my Saturday morning. Have a great weekend. Rosemary

  4. I didn't know you were a dancer, but I'm not surprised. The color pink of the ballerina is so delicate. Loved your post. Loved the song - it's one of my favorites. And that painting was beautiful as well.

  5. Truly darling my friend. My little grandgirl took ballet last year (not her thing) and was the sweetest thing. I wish I could have waved a magic-want and made her want to continue. Just precious.

Thanks for sharing the song, too!

Love to you this PINK SATURDAY~

  6. Happy Pink Saturday, Anne-Marie.

This is an exquisite post. I loved sharing your memories and experiences. I began taking ballet when I was a very young girl, but I had to quit because of an illness. I still cherish my own memories of pink tutus and slippers.

  8. Happy Pink Saturday! This post brought back many memories for me in the dance studie. I was into more than just ballet, enjoyed tap dancing more, but I did take many ballet classes. My parents had a dream that I would teach dance, as I was a teacher's assistant for about 3 years in high school, but being the rebellious teenager I was, I always had other dreams. I still do love to dance though at parties or weddings. Thanks for sharing!

  9. Hi Anne-Marie,
Oh I love this beautiful post and music as it brings back so many lovely childhood memories for me. I studied ballet for only 2 years but enough to love the art form. Piano playing and art took over and something had to go. But I so appreciate the discipline and dedication to dance.

Thank you for stopping by to become a new follower. I have so enjoyed my visit here to your lovely blog and also a new follower here as well.

Have a wonderful weekend and blessings to you.
    Hugs, Celestina Marie

  11. what beautiful memories this brings back for me as well. my pink tutu was a treasured wardrobe necessity, and my ballerina doll went with me everywhere. I took ballet for 8 years, until the $$ ran out. I took it up again in college and felt all of those wonderful emotions come back! :)

    Happy PS!

p.s. and hooray for making your dreams come true!

  26. I never tried ballet. I wasn't really very graceful as a child. These days, I do karate and have learned that I can be much more flexible than I would have believed possible for me at my age.
