VINTAGE THINGIES THURSDAY!!

What a beautiful doll!

What a surprise! I didn't ask Santa Claus for Chatty Cathy, but there she was under the tree dressed so pretty.  And then I found out she could TALK!

My Mom had given birth to my baby sister in September  so I enjoyed playing Mommy and now to have gotten my own little girl was a thrill.

Several hours later, some family began to arrive for their Christmas visit and my cousin Paul was among the visitors. Paul and I are just several months apart in age and we were always quite the playmates. I was rather excited to show Paul my new girl and he promptly poked her right in her eye and pushed it right back into her head. Thanks Paul, I'll never forgive ya! LOL  I dont have her anymore.  My younger baby sister marked her up with crayons and what not.    That summer, my friend who was a good 3 years older than me told me that she would look much better with a haircut.  I believed her until I saw her afterwards.  I never played with her again LOL  And then one day she was gone replaced by Wetsy Betsy!

For those who remember her or had her yourself, I found this cute commercial on Youtube so we can share the trip down memory lane together.

Enjoy!

  4. When I saw the thumbnail on Colorado Lady, I immediately knew it was Chatty Cathy! My older sister had this doll, and I remember playing with her too. I forgot what all she said, but watching the YouTube brought back memories. Her talking mechanism broke rather early on ours. We probably wore it out between the two of us! Thanks for sharing this.

  5. What a great post. I had a doll but I don't think it was Chattie Cathy. The big thing with my doll was that it cried real tears and I can't remember the name. I do remember her eyes fell out and I cried real tears.

  7. Hi,
Lovely post and Chatty Kathy doll story. I had two special dollies one was named Susie and other Michelle. I have four brothers, Michelle lost an eye to one brother and Susie was permanently scared to her face with a black markerby another brother. I sure wish I had taken with me when I grew up and left home. My mom discarded them years ago. Sad..Sad..

  12. Neat! My mom bought me a new version of Chatty PATTY in the 80s because she had such special memories of her Chatty Cathy doll. I'm going to send her the link...I know she'll enjoy it!

    Thanks!

  13. LOL!!!! For some reason this doll never appealed to me, but I know a lot of little girls loved her....I think she was a little spooky looking to me for some reason.....I had a wondrful Thumbelina doll that rooled over, she had a huge button in her back too, which used to bother me.... LOL

  15. I think every one of our dollies ended up getting a bad haircut, didn't they? Even my Barbies didn't escape my scissors! Fun post!

  16. yep my only childhood doll got a hair cut too. I guess that is why it is so hard to find them in good condition nowadays. Thanks for sharing the lovely pictures and link.
